Overview of our role
This is a new and permanent opportunity for you to show case your experience and expand in a new area. The primary purpose of the DERMS(Distribution Energy Management System) Engineer is to manage and support the technical solutions within Digital Electricity Solutions team. You will be empowered to maintain and continuously improve, using a deep understanding of business processes and technology. You will support the Principal Lead and Operations Lead to achieve their desired outcomes to all new and existing electricity DERMS initiatives.
- Lead the registration, validation, and testing of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) onto Jemena DERMs systems.
- Ensure connections fit the requirements of the connection process, and will participate within the customer connections workflow taking ownership of connections processing onto the Jemena DERMs.
- Drive the continuous improvement of DER processes and systems.
- Collaborate with product owners and application SME’s to deliver small to medium application enhancements to meet business needs.
- Lead and drive requirements gathering, solution design, test and deployment activities.
- Ensuring that the systems and associated application and interfaces meets regulatory, reliability, performance, and availability requirement SLA’s
- Act as an IT consultant, assess new business requirements and initiatives against solutions to understand functional and technical fit, and make system recommendations for new capabilities and enhancement releases
- Ability to review application roadmaps, plans and strategies and lead the delivery of DERMS solution landscape.
- Prioritise product backlog and estimate effort for small to medium user stories.
- Project Work – may be assigned either part time or full time onto projects being delivered by the Program Delivery team. As part of the project team and reporting to a Project manager perform assigned tasks and follow relevant project procedures, methodologies.
A little about you
- Background in the electricity distribution industry, operational technology (OT), or distributed energy resources management systems (DERMS) is highly valued.
- Experience in asset connection and commissioning for DERMS, SCADA, or advanced metering infrastructure (AMI).
- Strong collaboration skills, with experience working in cross-functional, agile teams and supporting knowledge-sharing.
- Ability to translate business needs into technical solutions, including configuration management, solution design, and implementation.
- Skilled in guiding and mentoring technical teams, fostering a supportive and growth-oriented environment.
- Experience in solution design, risk assessment, and continuous improvement, with a focus on delivering effective, scalable outcomes.
Qualifications / certifications & Skills
- Deep understanding of electricity distribution network topology and expertise in configuring SCADA, AMI, and DERMS.
- Knowledge of the Common Smart Inverter Profile (CSIP-Aus) and its application in industry practices.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Partner with product owners and subject matter experts to enhance applications and deliver impactful business solutions.
- Support and contribute to a collaborative 24x7 on-call roster, ensuring service levels are met with a proactive approach.
- Strong experience in defect management, test cycle support (Functional, UAT), and facilitating effective defect resolution discussions.
