It’s an exciting time to join Investa.  We have an ambitious business strategy that requires a motivated, collaborative and high energy team to work towards achieving our goals, and we need more hands-on deck.  We're searching for an experienced Legal Counsel to join our collaborative team and be part of the exciting journey ahead.
This Legal Counsel role will provide support to the Chief Legal & Risk Officer in all legal matters with a particular emphasis on the funds and investment management business. 

Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Leading all legal matters including material acquisitions and corporate transactions, capital raises and debt funding to internal business as usual matters
  • Assisting and managing all legal issues associated with private equity real estate vehicles
  • Advising on investment management agreements, trust and registered scheme administration and joint venture investments
  • Contribute to a strong culture of compliance with legal and regulatory obligations. Including providing guidance and to the business on emerging regulatory and industry issues
  • Advising or facilitating external legal advice on material business issues and/or bespoke matters
  • Reviewing, drafting, and/or negotiating a range of agreements
  • Assisting internal clients to manage legal risk while aligning with business and strategic goals and priorities

What you will need to be successful: 

  • Tertiary qualification in Law or equivalent is essential
  • 5-8 years PQE
  • Current Practising Certificate issued in an Australian jurisdiction is essential
  • Significant demonstrated experience working within private practice at a reputable law firm or an in-house legal function within a real estate funds management and/or investment management company
  • Relevant experience in the financial services industry with strong technical expertise in both transactional and compliance/regulatory experience of funds management. Experience of structuring funds is highly desirable.
  • Experience working on Mergers & Acquisitions transactions, ideally in the real estate sector
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to present ideas, perspectives and issues to senior management
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate through ambiguity and complex situations
  • Comprehensive understanding of compliance and risk management practices and frameworks
