Reporting to our Business Intelligence Manager, the Senior Power BI Developer is responsible for leading the design, development, and optimisation of advanced Power BI reports and dashboards that deliver critical business insights. In this role, the developer collaborates closely with business stakeholders to understand their needs and translate them into high-performance BI solutions. With expertise in Power BI, data modelling, and data visualisation, the Senior Power BI Developer plays a key role in driving data-driven decision-making across the organisation. This position also involves mentoring junior team members and contributing to the continuous improvement of Business Intelligence processes and capabilities.
The key responsibilities for this role are, but not limited to:
- Lead the end-to-end development of complex Power BI reports and dashboards, from requirements gathering through to delivery, ensuring reports are scalable, high-quality, and user-friendly.
- Collaborate with the Data Engineer and Business Intelligence Manager to design and implement efficient data models, sourcing data from the SQL Data Warehouse. Apply DAX and use other advanced techniques to transform data into insightful, actionable reports.
- Optimise large-scale reports and datasets for speed and efficiency, ensuring that reports load quickly and perform optimally, even with high volumes of data.
- Work closely with business leaders, analysts, and other departments to understand complex business needs, define KPIs, and deliver data solutions that enable informed decision-making.
- Leverage advanced analytical functions in Power BI to provide deeper insights, such as predictive modelling, trend analysis, and anomaly detection, helping the business stay ahead of key trends.
- Work with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities to streamline reporting processes, improve report usability, and introduce new features or capabilities to enhance business intelligence.
Key skills and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Business Analytics, or a related field.
- Over 5 years of experience in developing Power BI reports and dashboards or similar corporate reporting systems
- Proactive, solution-oriented mindset with a drive to exceed business expectations.
- Strong leadership and mentoring abilities to support junior team members.
- Expertise in Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, Power Query, and DAX.
- Strong SQL skills for data extraction and manipulation.
- Ability to integrate data from diverse sources, including databases, APIs, and cloud platforms like Azure or AWS.
