The opportunity
As a Business Development Manager at Hostplus, you will be at the forefront of our growth strategy. Your primary mission will be to identify, nurture, and develop relationships with large-scale employers, intermediaries, and key stakeholders. You will be responsible for proactively seeking out new business opportunities and securing partnerships that align with our strategic objectives values and strong member first culture. This involves a deep understanding of the corporate superannuation market, as well as our growth initiatives, markets, strategies, and policies. Your ability to cultivate and maintain strong relationships will be crucial in generating leads and driving growth in the best interests of our members.
In this role, you will represent and promote Hostplus' products and services to potential employers across various market segments, including our heritage sectors and allied sectors. You will apply a disciplined approach to scheduling, conducting, and following up on activities that lead to agreed growth objectives. Your efforts will directly contribute to the successful acquisition of new employer partners and the expansion of our membership base.
Additionally, you will play a key role in supporting the preparation of formal tender submissions, RFPs, and other business acquisition activities. You will also participate in departmental growth-related projects, focusing on optimising operational efficiencies and maximizing growth outcomes. Your insights and contributions will help shape Hostplus' corporate strategy, product development, and marketing campaigns.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement business growth strategy and initiatives to drive new business opportunities and achieve growth targets.
- Provide key input on the preparation of formal tender submissions, RFPs, and other business acquisition activities to secure new partnerships.
- Secure superannuation default fund status with medium to large employers by building and maintaining strong relationships with key decision-makers.
- Identify new growth markets and execute strategies to acquire new employer partners, contributing to the fund’s overall growth targets.
- Maintain a strategic pipeline of larger employer and corporate prospects, ensuring a steady flow of potential new business opportunities.
- Ensure all business development activities comply with ASIC, APRA, ATO, and other relevant legislation to maintain the fund’s integrity and reputation.
- Deepen relationships with key stakeholders and partners to drive growth-oriented processes and create networking opportunities.
- Represent Hostplus at industry events, conferences, and tradeshows to promote the fund’s products and services and enhance brand visibility.
- Work collaboratively across the organisation and with external stakeholders to support the success of growth objectives and initiatives.
- Provide accurate and detailed reporting on the sales pipeline, growth forecasts, and market insights to inform strategic decision-making and corporate strategy development.
About you
- Comprehensive and demonstrated working knowledge of superannuation, investment, and insurance products and contemporary knowledge of these products' use in the context of modern awards, enterprise agreements, and corporate workplaces.
- Demonstrated experience and an enviable record of success in managing and implementing sophisticated business growth strategies within a sales or distribution team.
- Demonstrated strength of relationships with the intermediated market (i.e., 1st and 2nd tier tender managers).
- Demonstrated background in expanding new markets and increasing market share within a competitive and contestable market sector.
- Proven success in achieving key result areas and key performance indicators in previous business development management roles related to selling and securing new business in a competitive market with a focus on taking market share from key competitors.
- Developing sales and distribution strategies that leverage differentiated value and distinctive competitive advantages.
- Effective stakeholder engagement based on a strategic approach to identifying and securing new business growth opportunities.
- Demonstrated ability to work within compliance frameworks, especially within financial services environments.
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant business or related degree
- RG146 compliant mandatory
