We are seeking a junior Battery and Solar Sizing Engineer with a background in energy storage and renewable energy systems.

This role offers a dynamic work experience within our company, collaborating with our advisory, sales, construction, and development teams. As a member of the Advisory team and reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will deliver engineering services and counsel for our internal electrical and energy solutions as well as for our external clients.

Your expertise in energy storage and renewable energy systems, especially in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and solar photovoltaic (PV) installations, is crucial for focusing on the technical sizing and modelling of battery and solar systems. Equally important is your capability to provide customers and internal teams with financial and operational insights.

You are a person who possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team. Have excellent communication and presentation abilities, are detail-oriented, and can manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • FCAS Modelling:
  • Perform Frequency Control Ancillary Services (FCAS) modelling to optimize the integration of battery systems with grid requirements.
  • Analyse and ensure system compliance with grid codes and operational standards.
  • Customer Liaison:
  • Work directly with customers to gather requirements and provide technical advice on battery and solar system design.
  • Present technical solutions in a clear and understandable way to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Design & Sizing:
  • Design and size Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and solar PV systems, ensuring optimal performance and cost-efficiency.
  • Evaluate and recommend system configurations based on customer needs and site-specific requirements.
  • Financial Analysis Support:
  • Collaborate with the financial team to provide system cost estimates, ROI calculations, and potential savings.
  • Assist in developing and refining business cases for system implementation.
  • Proposal Development:
  • Refine customer proposals by providing accurate technical details, system configurations, and expected performance outcomes.
  • Ensure that proposals align with the client’s objectives and project budget.
  • Data Gathering and Reporting:
  • Collect and manage data required for system modelling and design.
  • Create detailed reports and presentations to support project decisions and customer communications.

Technical expertise required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field.
  • 2-4 years of experience in battery and solar system design, including energy storage sizing and modelling.
  • Strong understanding of BESS, PV systems, and their integration with the grid.
  • Proficiency in solar design software (e.g., PVSyst, HOMER, HelioScope, etc) and battery sizing tools.
  • Familiarity with Australian grid requirements and standards.
  • Skilled in customer-facing communication.

Nice to have

  • Experience in FCAS modelling or similar grid services.
  • Experience working with financial teams for system cost analysis.
