The Role

Our software engineering teams have built some of Australia’s most popular websites and apps, with millions of unique visitors each year to our digital platforms. The G'day Group is undergoing a significant period of growth and is investing in technology and business processes to ensure we can provide market leading digital experiences for our customers.

As the Solution Architect you will be responsible for designing technology solutions based on business, functional and non-functional requirements, with an emphasis on ensuring proposed solutions are holistic, scalable, cost-effective, secure and fit-for-purpose.

You will bridge the gap between business problems and technology solutions focusing on how to address the broader business and technical needs of Discovery Parks. You will be responsible for presenting and delivering architecture documentation covering business, applications, integrations, data and cloud domains and providing advice and guidance that will be critical in the future state design and roadmap of our technology assets. You will work within an large digital delivery team environment that includes engineering managers, project managers, business analysts, software developers and testers.

To be successful in the role, you will have experience working with business leaders to understand capability requirements, and articulate a solution and a plan (MVP, transition architectures) for building out the capability incrementally. 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Lead product/platform selection processes, contribute to business cases, research and design digital solution options including costs, and prepare current and future state architecture mappings
  • Design end-to-end digital solutions that meet business needs while considering factors such as scalability, security, performance, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Create architecture diagrams, technical specifications, and documentation to communicate the solution vision and design to stakeholders.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate technologies, frameworks, and tools to support software development initiatives including emerging technologies and tools to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.
  • Assess the suitability of third-party products and services to complement the solution architecture and meet business requirements.
  • Make recommendations on technology adoption and provide rationale for technology selections.
  • Be a trusted advisor to business stakeholders understanding their needs and collaborating with them to envision and design technology solutions
  • Collaborate with the project team to produce a roadmap of epics, features, stories and effort estimations that are in alignment with the future state architecture plans, defining release increments and transition architectures

Your Experience

To be successful in this role you will have completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field. You will have strong experience working in a similar role producing solution design documentation, evaluation and presenting solution options and facilitating design discussions.

You will have a solid understanding of digital solution architectures, web and mobile application development principles, including responsive UI/UX design and microservices. You will have working knowledge of fundamental integration patterns, API development patterns and layered App design patterns. You will have experience with Cloud architectures and services, specifically the Azure ecosystem: App Services, Azure Functions, Web Jobs, Azure Search, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Hub, elastic services. 

Whilst technical proficiency is important to the role, you will also have the attitude, soft skills and leadership capability to engage with a broad range of business and technology stakeholders. You will have excellent leadership and interpersonal skills. You will possess a high level of energy, self-motivation, autonomy, initiative, and attention to detail to be successful in meeting the business demands at G’day Group.
