Your Role

There is no typical working week at Flybuys. But here are some of the things you will be working on, day-to-day;

  • Coach and enable software engineers, uplifting their performance and fostering their career development.
  • Demonstrate hands-on software engineering expertise, improving engineering competency. 
  • Proactively identify areas of improvement in engineering and work with the relevant teams to uplift these including technical, tooling, culture, process, collaboration as measured by feedback from their managers. 
  • Work across the organisation to uplift the uptake of AI with a goal of improving efficiency. 
  • Find and define quantitative and qualitative ways to measure improvement of engineers in the chapter as well as the practice overall and look for ways to showcase this.
  • Conduct training sessions and workshops for continuous skill enhancement. Support the capability development of the squad through recruitment capability assessment, technical or functional training and shared learning with chapter members in other squads. Input into performance management. 
  • Manage and support the full breadth of engineering crafts including mobile, web, server-side/back-end, data, ML/AI, core, SaaS and establish any help establish any sub-chapters as required. 
  • Provide a career path for squad members to grow and develop their skills and capabilities. 
  • Design and promote reusable services and software libraries across all platforms and help the teams implement and use these. 
  • Provide technical advice, produce standard artefacts, and ensure architecture and solution designs are interpreted correctly at engineering level. 
  • Work with the engineering leadership, architects and delivery teams across the organisation in prioritising and addressing technical debt proactively. 
  • Maintain and report on a backlog of engineering roadmap items and work with the teams to get these implemented. 
  • Encourage agile practices for team efficiency and adaptability. 
  • Contribute to quarterly Objectives and Key Results, aligning with product and tech health metrics and using these to drive engineering uplift across Flybuys.

Your Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field. 
  • Proven experience in software engineering, technical leadership, and practice management. 
  • Ability to apply analysis and skills in solving complex engineering problems. 
  • Strong communication skills and effective collaboration with cross-functional teams. 
  • Proficiency in a wide variety of AWS / cloud, software languages and tools such as Java, Javascript/React, Go, Kotlin, Swift, Python. 
  • Leadership experience, developing talent across the business and outside of direct organisation. 
  • Demonstrated working with agile mindset and behaviours, championing and influencing a culture of growth, self-motivated leadership and influencing cross-functional teams. 
  • Craft enablement through coaching, mentoring, facilitation, and teaching.
