About the role:

As a Senior Automation Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in the development and implementation of robust engineering solutions, provide expert technical advice to internal and external stakeholders and have meaningful work that contributes to maintaining a future focused electricity network for the ACT.  

The position has a key role with the development and implementation of next generation digital substations based on IEC 61850 technologies and the realisation of benefits in construction, operation, maintenance, safety and reliability.

Key responsibilities: 

  • Lead the development and delivery of complex technical projects.
  • Lead the development and testing of automation control schemes, and IED logic configurations, in alignment with technical specifications and assist delivery teams with on-site control scheme integration and commissioning into protection relays and RTUs.
  • Provide expert technical assistance to internal and external stakeholders on secondary systems, including aspects of design, construction, device configuration, fault finding, testing and commissioning.
  • Audit and enforce engineering standards and record keeping for all aspects of secondary systems projects and maintenance.
  • Provide mentoring and leadership to engineers and technicians within the team.

Our ideal candidate:

  • You take active steps to ensure the safety of your colleagues and our community, championing a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment.
  • You have a Bachelor’s Degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Information Technology or related discipline.
  • You can demonstrate your knowledge and experience in SCADA, Protection and Communication systems including protocols such as IEC 61850, DNP3 and Modbus; and protection schemes used in electrical substations.
  • Knowledge and experience of electricity transmission and distribution systems.
  • You have engineering and design experience with secondary systems, including design reviews, safety-in-design and quality assurance.
  • You have project technical leadership experience and can lead technicians and engineers to develop and implement robust engineering solutions.
