About the Role 

The Principal Business Analyst at Esri Australia is a strategic and operational leader for the Business Analysis function and capability. This role combines expert BA skills with leadership to enhance the maturity and effectiveness of the BA Practice. The Principal BA supports all projects, leads requirements definition, and aligns with a Sector Principal Consultant Level and expectations and years of experience.

The Principal BA champions BA methodologies, drives improvements and innovation, fosters stakeholder relationships, and positions the BA practice as a key enabler of business success. They also drive innovation, ensure policy compliance, streamline operations, and act in a leadership role across the business. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and/or participate in business analysis activities for internal or external strategic initiatives or projects with significant ambiguity and complexity. 
  • Manage requirements elicitation, analysis, validation and documentation aligned with business and project objectives. 
  • Drive suitable design and solutioning and apply quality management techniques to ensure solutions meet key business needs and requirements. 
  • Communicate and engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including at management/executive level. 
  • Facilitate workshops and discussions to align outcomes and resolve complex issues. 
  • Provide expert consultancy and business analysis services to address business challenges and identify improvement opportunities. 
  • Support decision-making by providing expert insights and data-driven recommendations. 
  • Understand our clients and business to identify, capture and validate business and GIS initiatives that meet strategic goals. 

About You 

We are seeking a Principal Business Analyst with the drive to lead the BA practice across the organisation. You have a comprehensive range of BA skills and are a proven leader with strong communication skills and initiative. You are detail-oriented and possess strong problem-solving abilities. 

To be successful, you will need to bring along:

  • Significant successful experience in Business Analysis/Consultancy, leading BA efforts and stakeholder engagement. 
  • Experience with Business Analysis frameworks and methodologies, with relevant certification desirable (e.g. PMI-PBA, CCBA, CBAP, BABOK) 
  • Experience with project and/or portfolio management frameworks and methodologies, with relevant certification desirable (e.g. PMI PMP, PRINCE2, PMBOK, OGC Gateways). 
  • Proven leadership skills to mentor, coach, and manage a practice lead or a BA practice. 
  • Domain experience in GIS Implementation is highly desirable. 
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and drive business change management. 
  • Strong communication and people coordination skills. Ie. Staff and clients. 
  • Tertiary qualification in Business Analysis, Geography, Engineering, IT, Science, or related field whilst not essential will be highly regarded. 
  • Full permanent working rights in Australia.
