Position Purpose

As the Head of Future Networks and Markets, you will lead the strategic direction and execution of innovative grid solutions to enhance our network services and infrastructure. This role is instrumental in developing and implementing market models that drive energy innovation and cultivating strategic partnerships that align with our future energy vision. 

Your responsibilities include securing funding for innovation initiatives, expanding customer flexibility services, and integrating renewable and net-zero technologies to improve grid efficiency. Additionally, you will support the development of advanced planning tools and digital platforms that enhance collaboration and decision-making. 

A key focus is driving workforce transformation initiatives, ensuring our team is equipped with the skills needed to navigate evolving industry standards. You will also design and implement a long-term investment programs centered on Consumer Energy Resource (CER) integration. 

Ultimately, this role is crucial in positioning our organisation at the forefront of the energy transition, fostering grid innovation, and building strategic partnerships to shape the future of energy networks. 

Key Accountabilities

  • Market Model Development: Develop and implement innovative market models that drive energy innovation, including hybrid regulated and unregulated business cases to advance network and market services. Collaborate with market partners to identify new revenue opportunities and enhance the customer value proposition through creative grid solutions. 
  • Funding Collaboration: Engage with ARENA and other grant funders and investment bodies to secure support and funding for innovation initiatives, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and optimising resource utilisation. 
  • Strategic Partnerships: Collaborate with key stakeholders—such as retailers, aggregators, councils, government agencies, and developers—to drive innovative grid infrastructure projects that align with energy futures. 
  • Customer Flexibility Initiatives: Develop and launch platforms, projects, and initiatives aimed at enhancing customer flexibility services, promoting adaptive energy consumption and generation. 
  • Grid Efficiency Enhancement: Accelerate the integration of new renewables and net-zero technologies (such as EV’s and Batteries), enhancing grid efficiency and supporting a sustainable energy transition. 
  • Planning Tools: Support the development of advanced planning tools that enable effective grid management and forecasting. These tools will incorporate real-time data analytics, scenario modelling, and predictive capabilities to support decision-making and optimise resource allocation. 
  • Collaboration Platforms: Establish digital platforms that facilitate collaboration among stakeholders, enabling seamless information sharing and joint project planning to drive innovation in grid infrastructure. 
  • Workforce Transformation Initiatives: Design training programs and digital resources to equip our workforce with the skills needed to effectively utilise new planning tools and adapt to evolving industry standards. 
  • Investment Program Development: Design and implement a near-term and 25-year investment program focusing on Consumer Energy Resource (CER) integration to support our energy futures. 

Qualifications, Certifications and Licences

  • Degree qualification in Engineering, Business, Planning, or equivalent 

Skills and Experience 

  • Extensive experience in energy innovation, grid management, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of market models and regulatory frameworks.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain partnerships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Innovative mindset with a focus on customer-centric solutions and flexibility.
  • Experience in developing long-term investment strategies and advanced planning tools.
