Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Sr. Specialist Operations to provide strategic guidance and leadership to our project teams within the natural gas industry. This role is pivotal in ensuring that projects are designed and delivered safely, reliably, and efficiently, while meeting Integrated Management System requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Guidance: Offer expert advice to project teams to ensure the design and delivery of safe, reliable, and fit-for-purpose projects.
- Integrated Management System Compliance: Ensure that all project implementations meet the necessary Integrated Management System requirements.
- Project Support: Assist in the development, design, and implementation of projects to guarantee their safety, reliability, and efficiency.
- Stakeholder Liaison: Act as the primary liaison between the Project Team and Westcoast stakeholders, representing the core interests of Operations throughout the project lifecycle.
- Leadership in Safety and Environment: Provide leadership support to ensure that safety, environmental, and operational best practices are upheld during project construction.
- Institutional Knowledge Sharing: Share gas industry knowledge with Operations teams to ensure project requirements for training, operating procedures, asset maintenance, and management are met.
- Project Deliverables: Ensure ORA Operations deliverables are executed according to project schedule requirements.
- Commissioning and Handover: Oversee the completion of commissioning and handover requirements, ensuring effective communication with stakeholders and completion of ORA scoping.
- Resource Management: Identify and communicate operational resource requirements, providing direction and informal leadership to Operators and Technicians assigned to projects.
- Scope and Process Management: Address and resolve gaps in scope, funding, timing, or process/program requirements between Projects and Operations.
- Deficiency Management: Provide operational support for managing project deficiencies and the handover and acceptance process to Operations.
- Risk Identification: Identify operational risks to prevent personal, process, and business impacts, with a focus on cost avoidance exceeding $1M.
Scope/Dimensions:
- Decision-making authority for "asset owner" and front-line supervisor decisions related to project functions.
- Responsible for identifying safety, operational, and business risks associated with project scope and deliverables.
Working Relationships:
- Engage daily with project and operations stakeholders, including external consultants and vendors.
- Collaborate across broad internal and external teams.
Qualifications:
- 5-10 years of Operations or Maintenance experience in the Natural Gas Industry.
- Formal education, a technical degree, or equivalent certifications may be considered with less experience.
- Strong communication and relationship development skills.
- Self-driven with the ability to prioritize work during periods of heavy workload and competing priorities.
- Extensive operations or technical experience related to gas transportation equipment and systems (e.g., Pipeline and Compression).
- Working knowledge of gas-related programs, processes, and familiarity with industry standards and best practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Extensive experience with Westcoast Operations teams and familiarity with station equipment.
- Experience as a field-level leader.
- Knowledge of Management of Change, Work Management, Operations Training Programs, Operational Readiness and Assurance Processes, and Commissioning and Handover best practices.
Working Conditions:
- Predominantly office environment
- Through the project lifecycle there are times where extensive travel is required to vendor, consultant and regional field locations.
- Overall travel requirements for the role are ~20% of the time.
- Safety sensitive role in terms of conducting field visits to pipeline, measurement and compressor station facilities.
- Highway driving throughout British Columbia for onsite activities and meetings.
