DJCS is continuing to build a surge workforce by establishing a talent pool of self-nominated DJCS staff who are ready, willing and able to be mobilised as part of a surge response.
What is a surge response?
The past couple of years have highlighted the need to be able to efficiently mobilise staff in times of crisis as we responded to the COVID-19 pandemic and more recently the Flood response alongside other events across the state.
A surge response is a requirement to make some type of change to usual business operations, in response to an unexpected and unforeseen event, that could be triggered by an external source (e.g. a pandemic or environmental event) or internal source (e.g. a significant system failure).
In these events, some business areas will need to alter business as usual operations due to unexpected circumstances, both internally and externally, and pivot our resources to areas of greatest need.
Staff who are part of the surge workforce talent pool will be matched to a surge response based on their skill-sets, interests and prior experience and will be deployed at short notice for an agreed period to perform an agreed role. The role may be similar to what they do in their usual role, or they may work in new ways in different circumstances. Once the surge requirement has ended, staff will return to their usual role.
