About the role

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will provide financial expertise and support to your project, ensuring robust financial management, reporting, and analysis.

This role involves maintaining cash flow projections, managing costs, preparing financial reports, and supporting the Commercial Manager in monitoring the project’s financial health.

You will play a key role in aligning project financials with budgets, forecasts, and contractual requirements, contributing to the effective delivery of a critical infrastructure project.


Key Responsibilities

 

Cash Flow Management

Work closely with the Project Director and Commercial Manager to maintain and update cash flow projections on a monthly basis, ensuring alignment with project milestones and financial objectives.

 

Financial Reporting

Produce accurate and timely financial reports on a monthly basis, detailing actual costs, accruals, dockets, invoices, goods received, and payment confirmations for the client and internal stakeholders.

 

Cost Control

Monitor and scrutinise project expenses, ensuring all direct and indirect costs are accurately allocated and transferred between projects as necessary. Review costs monthly to confirm adherence to project cost codes.

 

Invoice Management

Ensure all payments to vendors and subcontractors comply with contract terms, including the Security of Payment (SOP) Act. Develop and manage tracking systems to monitor payments as required.

 

Forecasting

Assist Project Managers and Directors with forecasting future costs and revenues, providing financial insights to inform decision-making.

 

Audit Preparation

Prepare prerequisite documentation and financial information for audits, ensuring all cost data is ready for review on a monthly or prescribed basis by the Financial Certifier.

 

Financial Analysis

Analyse financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, supporting the project team with actionable insights to optimise project performance.

 

Cost Management

Maintain awareness of disallowed costs under the contract and ensure these are identified and tracked through a comprehensive disallowed cost register.

Budget Awareness and Monitoring

Assist in monitoring the project budget, regularly reviewing actual costs against budgeted allocations. Provide variance analyses and support the team in addressing discrepancies.

 

Payments and Claims

Review and ensure all payment claims and invoices are verified and approved by the responsible person before submission.

 

Project Coding

Link actual costs incurred to items within the payment claim, ensuring accurate alignment of financial data to project deliverables on a monthly basis.

 

Budget Tracking

Track budgets, commitments, and actual costs of work performed. Monitor ETC (Estimate to Complete) and EAC (Estimate at Completion) with detailed variance explanations and commentary.

 

Reporting and Earned Value Management (EVM)

Input data into reporting systems to develop and enhance Earned Value Management techniques, providing clear insights into project progress and financial performance.


About you

You will have a minimum of three years’ experience in a similar accounting or finance role, ideally within the construction or infrastructure sectors, along with the following.


  • A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline;
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, forecasting, and cost control principles;
  • Proficiency in financial software and systems, with advanced Excel skills;
  • Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to manage complex financial data;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing financial risks;
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with project teams and external stakeholders;
  • Understanding of construction contracts and familiarity with disallowed costs under project agreements is advantageous;
  • Have experience of managing complex project cost code structures.
  • Knowledge of Earned Value Management (EVM) and experience in using reporting systems to track financial performance will be highly regarded.
