At Christchurch Airport, we’re more than a gateway. We're a hub of aviation, construction, emergency services, and office-based activity – all happening in one of the most dynamic operating environments in Aotearoa. We’re looking for a highly experienced Senior Health & Safety Advisor to join our passionate Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) team on an 18-month fixed-term contract.
This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role where you’ll lead improvement projects that will help shape the future of our HSW approach.
What you’ll be working on
You’ll hit the ground running to lead and deliver several critical pieces of work:
- Critical Risk Management enhancements, including bowtie development and implementation
- Development of key safety initiatives including D&A rollout (aligned with CAA requirements)
- Integration of People and Aviation Safety documentation into a unified framework
- Assurance program support including internal auditing and supporting operational managers to deliver improvements.
- Designing and delivering a refreshed HSW Training Program that works for our diverse teams – from airfield to firefighting to the corporate office
You’ll work across our business and with a range of external partners and contractors, so your ability to influence, educate and bring others on the journey will be key.
Who we’re looking for
We’re after someone with:
- Substantial health and safety experience, with deep understanding of complex overlapping PCBU duties, critical risk, contractor management, and safety system design
- A collaborative, professional and pragmatic approach – with the ability to support both strategic goals and frontline realities
- Proven experience operating in complex and high-risk environments – aviation, emergency services, construction, or similar
- Confidence working with multiple PCBUs, external regulators, and a wide range of stakeholders
- Strong investigative, analytical and reporting skills
You’ll need a relevant H&S qualification or equivalent experience and the confidence to influence at all levels of the organisation.
What we offer
- A genuinely varied and meaningful role in a unique workplace
- A supportive and values-driven team culture
- The chance to make a tangible impact across one of New Zealand’s most iconic infrastructure businesses
- A competitive salary and full medical insurance
This is a fixed-term opportunity to be part of something big – where your experience can make a real difference for our people and our future.
We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where diverse perspectives and experiences are valued. If you require any accommodations during the recruitment process, let us know – we want you to bring your best self to this opportunity.
