About the Role

In City Safety, the Animal Services unit have multiple opportunities across two teams for enthusiastic professionals seeking a rewarding career in animal services. The opportunities are field-based and day-to-day will see you responding to animal related incidents, conducting investigations in line with relevant legislation and procedures, issuing infringements, liaising with the public and providing education on responsible pet ownership.

As this is a public engagement role, you will be interacting frequently with members of the public, stakeholders and pet owners – therefore excellent interpersonal skills are required and the ability to maintain professionalism, empathy and composure whilst managing sometimes challenging situations. In addition, initiative to operate autonomously and efficiency in managing a caseload will help you succeed. Pre-existing compliance or investigative experience are beneficial for this role, as well as general administration skills to assist with your case management and record keeping.

Animal Attack Team – Grade 10  

The Animal Attack Team is responsible for the investigation and enforcement of matters such as dog attacks, animal seizures and declaring dogs as dangerous or menacing. As an officer within this team, you will receive specialised training to handle aggressive animals, conduct risk assessments and conduct thorough investigations in line with a range legislation including the Animal Management Cats and Dogs Act 2008, Local Law 2017 and City of Brisbane Act 2010. 

Animal Management Team – Grade 7

The Animal Management Team is primarily responsible for the enforcement and compliance of animal management related issues such as stray animals, wandering, noise nuisance complaints and off leash dogs across the city. As an officer within this team, you will work across a range of legislation including the application of the Animals Local Law 2017, Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008 and City of Brisbane Act 2010.

Note: These roles require participation in a rotational 7 days a week roster, including overtime when required. Flexibility in working arrangements is required to meet business needs (i.e. roster swaps). in an on-call roster, reasonable after-hours activities and overtime when required by business needs and/or disaster events.
