The Role
You will be working with a small, tight knit, collaborative and supportive team known as City WorkCover. The role provides opportunities to regularly connect with other departments to build positive relationships and contribute to Council’s vision. City WorkCover is one of the Employee Wellbeing teams that support our workers holistically.
As a Senior Claims Advisor with Council, you will manage a variety of workers’ compensation claims with varying levels of complexity from registration to resolution. You will ensure compliance with legislation and standards imposed by the Workers’ Compensation Regulator. You will liaise with all relevant parties in connection with the claims including the worker and their team leader, their work area, the rehabilitation team, and many external medical providers. You will also manage common law damages claims in conjunction with Council’s legal advisers, through to negotiated settlements or court outcome.
We are seeking someone who is agile in their service delivery to customers, ensuring communications, understanding, transparency and sensitivity is maintained. Your ability to effectively consult, educate and negotiate throughout the claims process will enable continual development of Zero Harm strategies, including sustainable return to work, maintenance of rehabilitation outcomes, and a high standard of claims management.
To be successful you will have:
- experience in overseeing and making decisions on workers' compensation claims of varying complexity, with a proficiency in interpreting and implementing relevant legislation, specifically in relation to the handling and management of statutory claims
- ability to prioritise tasks and autonomously manage a caseload in order to meet deadlines in a self-managed environment
- proven skill in establishing effective communication and negotiation channels with both internal and external stakeholders, and the capability to professionally represent Brisbane City Council to external entities and in Court
- possession of or the ability to acquire Rehabilitation and Return to Work Co-ordinator Accreditation.
Experience, and knowledge of the law relating to the administration and management of damages claims would also be considered desirable, but is not essential.
