Brisbane Infrastructure (BI) brings together Council's asset management, infrastructure planning, design, project management, construction, services, maintenance and transport operations activities.​

Our Branch

Planning and Design's team of over 180 professionals have extensive experience and a demonstrated record of excellence in the design and documentation of civil and civic infrastructure projects.

As a consultancy branch within City Projects Office, the team is committed to delivering design and planning outcomes that balance environmental considerations with community-friendly infrastructure.

Planning and Design has worked with a range of Council program areas to contribute to a number of significant Council projects, including Road programs, Bikeway programs, suburban library refurbishments, landfill remediation and sports field development, and flood damage assessment and redesign.

Join our Planning & Environment team, which provides a wide range of environmental services to support the planning, design, construction and maintenance of the City’s infrastructure. We work closely with clients to ensure sustainable development that complies with state legislative and regulatory requirements, with expertise across environmental assessments, environmental management planning, environmental auditing, permits and approvals, ecological assessment, Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and environmental oversight of construction.

The Role

Guided by your peers, you will be completing environmental assessments against environmental legislation as well as Council local laws and policies, providing design development advice to align the projects with regulatory compliance. You will navigate proposals through statutory assessments, while securing timely approvals that will facilitate delivery of Council projects such as road and intersection upgrades, bikeways, structural repair and drainage programmes as well as park upgrades / new parks.

This is a fast-paced role where you will be managing a high task load of competing projects and no two days will be the same.

To be successful you will have:

  • experience in the preparation of environmental assessments, environmental management plans and environmental auditing
  • ability to develop strategies and actions for the minimisation of environmental impacts from installation of infrastructure
  • ability to complete assigned tasks and work in a team environment with a strong focus on customer service, and the achievement of time, cost and quality targets
  • high level of written and oral communication skills (including consultative, interpersonal, report writing and negotiation)
  • knowledge of Queensland environmental legislative framework and the ability to apply this knowledge
  • a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (Environmental Science, Management or Planning) or relevant experience
  • possession of a current “C” Class driver’s licence.
