Our Branch

City Communication branch leads, develops, implements, provides advice, and evaluates all external communication for the whole of Council. City Communication is made up of fun, hard-working communication specialists in social media, multimedia, marketing, brand, campaign strategy, digital marketing, editorial, public affairs and sponsorship. The team works in close partnership with stakeholders and program areas to provide strategic communication advice and coordinate the development, implementation and evaluation of Council communication campaigns and initiatives.

About the role

As a Media Officer you will join a dedicated team of media and communication specialists, to support the delivery of media strategies and plans for Council’s projects and initiatives. Day-to-day, you will be responsible for proactive media activities to promote Council programs and responses to reactive media enquiries and issues in liaison with key stakeholders across the organisation. 

These media activities will see you:

  • Researching, writing, distributing and evaluating a range of content including articles, media releases, community service announcements, talking points and media responses to a consistently high standard.
  • contributing your knowledge of current public and media relations trends to corporate communication planning and positive coverage of Council initiatives across social media platforms.
  • developing strong working partnerships with internal and external stakeholders including the Lord Mayor’s Office to achieve corporate communications objectives; and
  • coordinating meetings between program areas, shaping and delivering high quality media materials and undertaking Public Affairs reviews.

Note: this role requires availability to work out-of-hours work as required during disaster and crisis events as part of Council’s Disaster Management responsibilities.
