Our Business
Brisbane City Council’s Transport for Brisbane division brings together Commercial and Contract Services, Engineering and Asset Management, Strategy and Network Service, Transport Operations and Future Transport Readiness. Together, these branches help keep Brisbane moving.
Engineering and Asset Management Branch is responsible for maintaining Council’s bus and metro fleet. The workshop at our new Rochedale Depot is currently building a dedicated and high performing team to carry out all levels of heavy vehicle maintenance duties.
The Role
As a Trade Assistant you will operate in a busy environment and provide proactive support to trade professionals. Day-to-day your role will perform a range of operational maintenance tasks for heavy vehicles and equipment, including basic servicing activities, acting as high voltage repair spotter and conducting on road Metro/Bus changes. You will also provide valuable stores support as required, including ordering, purchasing and the distribution of parts and materials, inventory and store control as well as cleaning the workshop and heavy vehicles.
*Flexibility in working arrangements are required in this position to meet business needs (such as participation in a rotational roster rostered weekend work, roster swaps, night shifts) and employees may be asked to work at locations other than the designated place of work.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- well-developed skills for working in the team environment and enjoy learning and helping others
- the ability to perform routine vehicle maintenance
- sound knowledge of workplace health and safety and environmental policies, practices and standards
- sound communication skills and the ability to develop positive working relationships
- sound computer literacy and the ability to use a variety of computer systems
- an understanding of mechanical terminology, front line maintenance and on-time service
- proven organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage competing demands and urgent requirements.
It is essential for the role you hold a current C Class Driver’s Licence, have held it for a minimum of 2 years and have the ability to obtain an HR licence.
While not mandatory, the following will be highly regarded:
- experience working with heavy vehicles / buses
- appropriate certificate II qualifications in mechanical/tyre, body or electrical trade
- LVR/CPR training to UETDRMP007 (Perform Rescue from a Live Low Voltage Panel) or equivalent qualification or ability to obtain within 6 months of commencing in role.
- Current high risk work licence to operate a forklift or ability to obtain within 6 months of commencing in role.
