Our Branch
The Compliance and Regulatory Services team contributes to the health, safety and amenity of Brisbane through a range of licensing and regulatory services related to environmental health; land use and built environment; animal management; natural environment; parking regulation; asset use; and contract management. We do this by providing best practice regulatory services that contribute positively to the quality and lifestyle of the city.
The Role
As the Senior Environmental Health Officer, you will have the primary responsibility of providing operational direction and effectively managing the daily activities of a dedicated team of environmental health professionals. Reporting directly to the Environmental Health Team Leader, you will offer expert guidance, mentoring, and coaching to the team members. Your role includes providing technical advice and constructive feedback to promote and ensure continuous personal and professional development.
You will also lead the team’s accountability for ensuring that public health outcomes and approvals align with the relevant legislation, Council policies, Local Laws and national standards. This opportunity is well-suited for a highly experienced environmental health professional with profound technical expertise and demonstrated leadership capabilities. Your primary focus will be to inspire and motivate the team, ensuring the achievement of environmental health objectives and establishing environmental health as the Council's leading professional discipline.
In this capacity, you are expected to demonstrate a positive mindset, attitude, and unwavering commitment to steering change and fostering the professional development of our staff. Your dedication will play a pivotal role in executing effective investigations, providing responsive services, and achieving positive environmental outcomes. A tertiary qualification in Environmental Health or equivalent, along with an open 'C' class driver's licence, are compulsory prerequisites for this position
To be successful you will have:
- demonstrated evidence of capabilities in Council’s Leadership Blueprint to deliver performance excellence and a values-based culture
- demonstrated experience in the coaching and mentoring of team members to achieve high standards of knowledge and practice
- demonstrated experience in managing complex applications and service requests and exercising discretion in decision making to achieve satisfactory outcomes
- strong technical and problem solving skills, research skills and high levels of understanding of the regulatory framework
- highly developed communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
The successful candidate will hold a tertiary qualification in Environmental Health from an accredited course (please see the link) https://www.eh.org.au/workforce/accredited-courses
The successful candidate will hold a valid C-Class drivers license.
