Our Business

The City Communication branch at Brisbane City Council leads, advises, develops, implements, and evaluates all external communication for the whole of Council. City Communication is made up of fun, hard-working communication specialists in brand, campaign strategy and implementation, digital, editorial, public affairs, and sponsorship. 

The Role

As an experienced publications editor, media relations or journalism professional with strong project management and stakeholder relations skills you will be driven by quality writing and editing, lead content and communication strategies and plans, assist in managing various aspects of corporate publications and content planning, coordinate editorial and communication activities and respond to enquiries.

This is a varied role responsible for mentoring our media officers, working on communication projects and initiatives in a fast-paced setting. This role requires working on a scheduled on-call roster, where you will at times respond to out-of-hours media enquiries across seven days including evening, overnight and weekends. 

To be successful you will have:

  • experience in communications, media, public relations, or related field
  • thorough knowledge of current media communication trends and issues and ability to improve communication outcomes
  • demonstrated ability to craft, deliver and evaluate media and communication strategies
  • demonstrated ability to provide specialist advice and assistance in the design and development of media and communication activities
  • strong written and verbal communication skills, including researching, writing, editing, proofreading and presentation skills, for a range of projects and audiences.
