Within the People and Culture branch, the Employee Relations team provides specialist support, advice, and assistance across multiple services delivered to the whole of Brisbane City Council. These services include industrial relations and advice, governance and improvement, planning projects, case management, performance leadership capability building and internal change management to cultivate a capable, positive, and productive workforce, ensuring excellent outcomes for the city.
The Role
The Employee Relations Advisor will provide specialist support, advice and assistance across the various service offerings, with a specific focus on end-to-end case management encompassing employee misconduct, performance, grievances and absenteeism.
Success in this role hinges on your ability to engage and manage stakeholders, building and sustaining positive professional relationships through effective communication skills.
On a day-to-day basis, you will:
- using strong written and oral skills to communicate with stakeholders
- deliver end-to-end case management services
- apply contemporary HR knowledge to interpret Council’s industrial instruments
- engage with stakeholders on policy and procedures in relation to Employee Relations matters.
- utilise data to assist with the evaluation, monitoring, and reporting on employee relations trends.
To be successful you will have:
- well-developed written, interpersonal and negotiation skills
- demonstrated consultative approach to build customer relationships and stakeholder partnerships to enable engagement
- experience in providing professional advice to internal stakeholders on employee relation enquiries.
- ability to apply critical thinking to research, analyse and problem solve, particularly in relation to organisational and human resources management issues
- demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with effective organisational skills and ability to prioritise work demands.
Tertiary qualifications relevant to the role would be desirable, however problem solving, and critical thinking skills are essential for this demanding role, as is the handling of confidential and highly sensitive information.
