Our Team

The City Projects Office Land Acquisition team undertakes all land acquisitions for all the various Council programs. It is the only Council team to undertake this work. The work requires a thorough understanding of Council’s policies and corporate procedures. This role undertakes consultation with property owners, often in a highly emotive environment. The Tenure and Acquisitions Officer role facilitates time sensitive acquisition functions including notices issued under the Acquisition of Land Act 1967, performing property related searches, preparing contracts of sale, undertaking pre-settlement inspections, simple land tenure matters such as road opening applications and assists on more complex tenure matters.

The Role

The role assists and supports the team responsible for property acquisitions for Council’s various projects and programs.

Under the guidance of senior officers, you will execute documents and correspondence relating to the Acquisition of Land Act 1967 and other land tenure issues including coordinating and processing the land acquisition process. You will also draft applications and submissions to affected landowners’ and other relevant stakeholders to facilitate the relevant acquisition of land for Council purposes.

As part of your role, you will regularly liaise with stakeholders on property acquisition and land tenure matters, including liaison with landowners, lawyers, town planners and other relevant parties including State Government.

In addition, you will ensure data integrity for the teams internal systems are up to date and accurate, and where required you will assist in the continuous improvement of City Project’s Office Quality Management System and KMS standards.

To be successful you will have:

  • demonstrated ability to provide a high standard of support for Council’s land acquisitions activities
  • demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the property acquisition process, tenure principles and practices and the ability to apply these in a public sector environment
  • demonstrated knowledge and understanding, or the ability to quickly gain the knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation with particular reference to the Acquisition of Land Act 1967, Land Act 1994, Land Title Act 1994, and the ability to apply these in a public sector environment
  • demonstrated ability to coordinate and undertake investigations and prepare appropriate documentation for a range of acquisition dealings including undertaking Title Searches and obtaining sales information
  • demonstrated excellence in customer service in a customer-oriented business environment
  • demonstrated ability to work effectively both autonomously and in a team environment including the ability to manage, priorities and coordinate work to meet tight deadlines
  • demonstrated administrative and organisational skills, including the ability to procure consultants in accordance with relevant procedures and processes.
