Salary Range: (Band 7) $123,340 - $134,848 per annum plus superannuation

Our Business and Branch

City Planning and Design develops strategic planning policy, quality urban design creative outcomes and key legislation including the Brisbane City Plan 2014.

The Regional & Citywide Planning team is responsible for demographic and urban research and analysis of current and emerging land use trends and urban growth modelling. This includes monitoring the city’s growth to deliver Brisbane City Council's long-term community plan for the city Brisbane Vision 2031.

The Role

This is a unique leadership opportunity for an urban planning, demographic data and modelling specialist to provide insights and recommendations for land use planning across Brisbane and make a difference to how people live and work in our beautiful city.

The Principal Research Officer manages the Research and Modelling Unit, providing technical and strategic advice for the delivery of significant urban development research projects for strategic land use and infrastructure planning. A key tool used by the team is the BrisURBAN growth model which produces the city growth projections and tests new policy. The also team utilise the award winning ‘Virtual Brisbane’ 3D spatial model to provide visual analysis for locations and specific development proposals and the expansion of regional planning and growth modelling.

To succeed you will demonstrate:

  • high level statistical skills, strong strategic and analytical focus to analyse data, developing highly technical reports, recommendations, and strategic planning solutions
  • understanding and management of land use and development activity datasets / GIS software
  • demographic research and analysis including land use, housing, employment, urban modelling and assumptions for growth
  • strategic land use-based policy research, development, and monitoring
  • excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively at all levels of the organisation and with external customers.
