About the Position

The General Manager, Fleet Management and Strategy, is responsible for the strategic and operational management of Brisbane City Council’s fleet (excluding buses and ferries). This role leads the Branch and Management Team to ensure efficient, compliant, and commercially viable fleet operations, while overseeing the external plant contract that provides equipment and operators across the council. The executive also develops long-term strategies to align the fleet with Brisbane City Council’s future vision.

Fleet Solutions within City Standards (CS), Brisbane Infrastructure (BI), manages the full lifecycle of fleet assets, supporting Brisbane City Council in delivering essential services to the city. Our diverse fleet includes cars, trucks, trailers, mobile lunchrooms, boats, excavators, road sweepers, forklifts, and more. We provide services in fleet procurement, maintenance, repairs, optimisation, temporary hire coordination, corporate carpool management, fuel management, and fleet disposal, ensuring the efficient and effective operation of all fleet assets across the Council.

As a forward-thinking executive, you will bring a proven track record in strategic fleet management, process improvement and driving efficiencies. You excel at sharpening and enhancing performance, leading transformative business changes, and fostering operational efficiency. Your strong commercial acumen enables you to deliver measurable improvements in performance and efficiency through effective leadership. A strategic leader, you will work collaboratively across all Council portfolios to achieve the best possible community outcomes, driving collective success and ensuring alignment with our organisational goals. Executives will specifically focus on delivering initiatives that promote an agile organisation, effectively directing resources to key priorities, including frontline services.

To be considered, you must have the following:

  • proven leadership in fleet management, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and high-performance team building within Fleet Solutions
  • tertiary qualifications in a relevant business discipline (e.g., fleet management, engineering, or postgraduate qualifications in business/project management)
  • expertise in business planning, operations, and financial management in specialised services
  • proven success in driving change management, improvements, and leading transformative business changes
  • strong ability to build profitable customer relationships and market products/services
  • experienced in managing senior staff in competitive, service-driven environments and skilled in coaching and developing technical staff
  • strong communicator with experience in reporting on projects, budgets, and performance
  • proficient in project management software (e.g., Microsoft Project, SAP) and office tools
  • committed to promoting zero harm and ensuring safety and environmental compliance; and
  • proven professional development to stay updated on management and HR best practices.
