Salary Range: Band 6 AUD $108,005.00 to $119,507.00 per annum plus superannuation

The Role

We have fantastic opportunities in Council’s Urban Renewal Brisbane and Neighbourhood Planning teams for new team members to deliver new projects under Brisbane’s Inner City Strategy and the new Suburban Renewal Program. These roles focus on preparing integrated precinct plans with key tasks including strategic land use planning, researching and drafting new planning policies, developing built form and urban design controls and undertaking community consultation. Taking a one Council approach to consulting with technical experts/stakeholders and providing advice on legislative requirements (Planning Act 2016) and Brisbane City Plan 2014 will also be part of the roles.

The Senior Urban Planner is responsible for managing and coordinating complex planning projects, playing a strong leadership role in the teams and communicating technical information to a wide range of audiences.

As part of our Strategic Planning section you will play a key role in driving transformation through working on a range of inner city and suburban renewal precinct plans as well as implementation of key strategies.

Our Business and Branch

City Planning and Design develops strategic planning policy, quality urban design creative outcomes and key legislation including the Brisbane City Plan 2014. Monitoring Brisbane’s growth under the Brisbane City Plan 2014 and South East Queensland Regional Plan is critical for making the future of the city happen, aligned to the themes of Brisbane Vision 2031.

To be successful you will have:

  • sound knowledge of one or more of the following areas gained through practical experience: strategic planning, precinct planning, urban renewal, urban design, policy development, mapping and community engagement
  • the ability to apply conceptual and analytical skills to strategic planning issues
  • proven policy drafting skills and ability to organise, prioritise tasks, complete work on time and to standard, and provide progress reports when required
  • well-developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to provide technical information to a range of customers and stakeholders
  • knowledge and experience in statutory planning, understanding of and the ability to interpret relevant legislation
  • conduct research and undertake data analysis and planning as part of project 
  • desirable: tertiary qualification in Town Planning or equivalent
  • desirable: Adobe suite and spatial mapping skills.
