The Role

The main purpose of this position is to oversee the operations of volunteers in up to 30 Habitat Brisbane bushcare groups. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing natural area and park bushland restoration initiatives in collaboration with various stakeholders, including the community.

Main responsibilities include:

  • developing and implementing strategic approaches to community-based ecological restoration
  • assisting the Program Officer Habitat Brisbane with effective planning and delivery of the program, including program reporting, operational procedures, and administrative compliance
  • ensuring that volunteers and contractors manage WHS and environmental risk appropriately and comply with legislative requirements across all project sites and activities
  • staying up to date with sustainable ecological restoration principles and practices, and local/regional ecological system information such as threats, priorities for restoration and ecological condition
  • communicating and consulting with key stakeholders on ecological restoration strategy and Habitat Brisbane program and project activities
  • delivering project administration of natural area management and ecological restoration projects within budget and on time and providing technical advice to volunteers
  • managing all procurement activities in line with corporate policies and ensuring contractors meet Council standards and project outcomes
  • preparing and coordinating customer correspondence, memos, submissions, good news stories, project updates, and reports

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • demonstrated knowledge and experience of nature conservation principles, ecological restoration principles and practices, and local native fauna, flora, and invasive species
  • knowledge of volunteer group management principles and demonstrated experience in working with and establishing volunteer groups and coordinating their participation in bushland restoration projects
  • proven organizational, project, and financial management skills with the ability to coordinate and deliver ecological restoration projects
  • highly developed interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, including the ability to prepare and carry out training and education programs and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team

This role requires a ‘C’ Class Drivers Licence and Criminal History Check for preferred candidates.

You may be required to undertake a pre-employment medical assessment to assess your ability to perform the genuine occupational requirements of the role.
