Our Branch

The Compliance and Regulatory Services (CARS) branch supply services which help make Brisbane a fairer and safer place 24/7. Our focus is our Community Value, and we engage with people across the city in a consistent, responsive way, making strong decisions to resolve problems and deliver solutions. CARS is divided into four dynamic work areas, all working together to deliver compliance and provide the highest level of community value to Brisbane residents.

The Role

Reporting to the General Manager, this role leads a team of 8 direct reports that deliver strong outcomes to benefit the entire CARS branch and Council. Encourage authentic connection, to influence, guide and support the Branch Leadership Team, the Civic Cabinet Chair’s office, other Council branches and Ward Offices to deliver consistent strategic and business outcomes across the entire 360-person branch.

What will you bring:

  • a high standard of organisational leadership and strong administration and communication skills with day-to-day operations and special project delivery

  • managing emerging issues, initiatives and proposals, working to achieve business goals and objectives
  • capability to analyse, research and independently assess the strategic and broader business implications of submissions, briefings, reports and policy proposals
  • ability to effectively liaise and communicate with senior and executive management, Councillors, project managers and external consultants
  • advanced negotiation and problem-solving capabilities to proactively drive forward the performance of the branch in its deliverables
  • expert preparation of high-level reports, presentations, briefing notes and media responses.

To be successful you will have:

  • experience in providing high quality professional advice to senior management on strategic, business, and operational issues
  • strong analytical and research skills to synthesise complex issues and develop recommendations and improvements
  • exceptional skills to lead and motivate others to achieve strategic objectives and branch goals
  • excellent communication and negotiation abilities to effectively liaise with all levels of stakeholders, with superior discretion
  • demonstrated evidence of capabilities in Council’s Leadership Blueprint to deliver performance excellence and a values-based culture.
