Our Branch – 2032 Host City, Global Relations and Economic Partnerships

The Global Relations team provide leadership, guidance and support for all international activities involving or undertaken on behalf of Brisbane City Council. We ensure Brisbane maximises, coordinates, and strategically drives the international opportunities available to the City of Brisbane.     

The 2032 Host City team collaborates across the organisation to plan and prepare for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. We the Lord Mayor and Chief Executive Officer in their leadership roles, work closely with internal and external stakeholders, Games Delivery Partners, and international organisations to optimise planning and delivery, ensuring the best possible outcomes for Brisbane.

The Economic Development team focuses on enhancing Brisbane’s capacity for long-term economic growth. We coordinate and implement projects designed to attract industry, investment, jobs and visitors.

As we continue to drive the city's development, significant internal growth opportunities are available within the Branch. These roles offer the chance to lead and execute initiatives that strengthen Brisbane's position as a premier global economic hub.

The Role

Take the lead in coordinating the planning, delivery and evaluation of dynamic projects, programs and events to drive the economic, civic and cultural outcomes of Brisbane City Council's International Relations and Multicultural Affairs program, along with bold vision of the Brisbane City Council’s Economic Development Plan 2031. This exciting role offers the opportunity to shape high-impact initiatives, including Sister City and key global region related activities, business missions, mayoral visits, the award winning biennial Asia Pacific Cities Summit (APCS) as well as multicultural programs such as the Lord Mayor’s Multicultural Business Awards and the Lord Mayor's Multicultural Business Scholarship Program.

To be successful you will have:

  • ability to contribute to team direction and a culture of performance excellence
  • experience in the delivery of events and projects in a multicultural context, to agreed timeframes
  • project management and organisational skills, utilised to manage competing priorities, project scoping, engagement, monitoring, tracking and reporting
  • research, analytical and problem-solving skills, an ability to develop reports and provide recommendations
  • excellent interpersonal skills to assist in working with multicultural delegates and stakeholders
  • demonstrated ability to work individually and in a team amongst competing priorities
  • understanding of international customs, cultural sensitivities, protocols, multicultural affairs and international business practices
  • ability to develop and maintain relationships to facilitate economic development.

It is highly desirable, but not mandatory, that you have experience in event and project management principles or use of project management software, alongside an industry recognised qualification or accreditation and proficiency in a language other than English from a key global region.
