Urban Forest, Protection and Restoration delivers a diverse portfolio that drives the clean, green and sustainable agenda by protecting, enhancing and restoring Brisbane's urban forest. Our Urban Forest team provides policy and leadership in delivering the Urban Forest agenda for the city. Our key priorities include protecting, nurturing and, growing the City’s urban forest and include such actions as providing well-shaded pedestrian spaces and bikeways in residential areas by 2031.
We work closely with both internal stakeholders (including City Planning and Design, City Standards, Development Services, Spatial Information Services and Compliance and Regulatory Services) and external stakeholders (including Brisbane Sustainability Agency) to deliver a greener and sustainable Brisbane for all residents and visitors.
The Role
As Program Officer Urban Forest, you will undertake projects that support the delivery and monitoring of open space outcomes and urban forest planning. This will involve researching, planning and development of open space and urban forest policy, implement activities to agreed timeframes and standards. Your stakeholder engagement and project management skills will be put to good use, as you effectively guide a diverse working group with to achieve our strategic program goals and delivery of key program outcomes.
To be successful for this role you will have:
- Experience in and knowledge of principles of urban forest planning and open space planning including the protection and enhancement of natural, cultural, historical, aesthetic and biodiversity values.
- Experience in and knowledge of policy and strategy development, including project management, research, analysing, problem solving, and providing advice to senior management.
- Experience developing and maintaining stakeholder relationships, influencing, making decisions and motivating others towards the achievement of key working priorities.
- Experience managing competing priorities and exercise discretion in dealing with sensitive, complex and contentious issues.
- Experience in negotiations, coaching and mediation with well-developed interpersonal skills and high quality written and oral communications
Desirable:
Working knowledge of Natural Assets Local Law 2003 and Brisbane City Plan 2014
Tertiary qualifications or experience in urban forestry, environmental science, environmental planning, environmental management or other relevant discipline.
