  • Part time 0.2 - 0.4 flexible, Fixed Term Role (Term 4 ,2024 to end of Term 1, 2025)
  • Base Salary $74k - $108k pa pro rata (Dependent on experience) + Super & Salary Packaging

About Berry Street School

The Berry Street School is a specialist independent secondary school with four campuses located in Ballarat, Morwell, Narre Warren and Shepparton. We offer an adaptation of the Victorian Curriculum for years 7–10, and the Victorian Certificate of Education Vocational Major (VCE VM) and Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC) for years 11-12.

Our School exists to provide high-quality education to young people with a history of adverse childhood experiences who are at risk of disengaging from their education. Our students may have significant gaps in academic achievement and have found it difficult to learn in a group setting, presenting with complex behaviours in school settings. 

Key Responsibilities

The classroom teacher for the tutoring program will:

  • Deliver tutoring in line with the Department of Education tutoring program requirements.
  • Deliver targeted teaching interventions to support those young people whose learning was disrupted by the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Plan, implement and deliver an engaging curriculum based on the individual needs of the students.
  • Use school-wide data measurements and teacher-informed judgements to inform practice.
  • Formulate frequently updated IEPS’s addressing the social-emotional and educational needs of the students.
  • Support the engagement of students within an inclusive and equitable educational environment implementing a trauma-aware approach to behaviour management.
  • Uphold all Australian Teaching Professional Standards.

About You

Required for the role; A teacher currently registered with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT)

  • A teacher with VIT Permission to Teach (teacher tutor)
  • A pre-service teacher (PST) (employed as an education support (ES) class employee) working under the supervision of a registered teacher
  • A speech therapist or occupational therapist (employed as an ES class employee) tutoring in specific identified student needs. 

You will understand of the importance of and have the ability to work in a team environment and an understanding of the trauma informed positive education model approach.
