We are currently seeking an experienced professional to fill the role of Environmental Coordinator while the current employee is on parental leave.

This contract full time position is based at the Touquoy mine site located approximately 1-hour northeast of Halifax, near Middle Musquodoboit, Nova Scotia. The mine is fully permitted and began production in fall 2017.

Our Environmental Coordinator will join a dedicated Environment team. Reporting to the Manager Environment, your role will support technical environmental projects and programs, compile and analyse environmental data, and provide technical and occasional field support for the environmental field program. The Coordinator is also responsible for providing assistance with regulatory and permitting requirements, as well as training.

The Opportunity:

  •  Ensuring and monitoring safety in the workplace by identifying and addressing hazards, participating in improving safety and ensuring all reporting requirements are completed.
  • Responsible for day-to-day direction for site contractors/consultants. Ensuring compliance with all health, safety, environment, and community (HSEC) requirements and legal obligations for the above personnel.
  • As directed by the Manager Environment, provide secondary support in directing and/or overseeing environment specialist and technicians.
  • Planning and implementation of key environmental projects, studies, and initiatives as directed by the Environment Manager. Delivering programs within allocated budgets. Verifying accuracy of all requested or regular reports and ensuring timely submission.
  • Maintaining a working knowledge of environmental law, provincial and federal regulations, Touquoy permits, Industrial Approval, and licence conditions.
  • Collaborating with other site departments to provide environmental support and advice during management of change reviews.
  • Completion of environmental compliance inspections and audits.
  • Provide on-call support in response to environmental incident reports.
  • Maintaining Regulatory Register of environmental permit/licence/approval compliance requirements.
  • Periodic updates to environmental management plans, protection plans, monitoring plans, and procedures for the Touquoy site to ensure up-to-date requirements for compliance with changes to environmental legislation, permits/approvals, polices, guidance, and best practices.
  • Supporting Manager Environment with management of annual operating budgets for the environmental field programs, projects, studies, and assessments developed in support of Touquoy mine environmental compliance management. Completing month end accounting requirements (accruals and variance analysis).
  • Managing effective use of available resources, including own time, in support of the delivery of the Environment team.
  • Contributing to an effective team.
  • Ensuring own work performance meets all role requirements; and taking appropriate professional development actions.

Our successful candidate will demonstrate the following:

  • Completion of a degree in one of the following fields of study: Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Hydrogeology, or Environmental Science. Related degree/diploma may also be considered.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience·
  • Computer literacy, particularly MS Office Suite products, skilled at troubleshooting
  • Must be physically fit and capable of repeated lifts of 50 lbs
  • Demonstrated commitment to ensuring a safe working environment·
  • Must possess a systematic approach to problems solving and decision making
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Current unencumbered Class 5 Driver’s License
