We are currently seeking an experienced professional to fill the role of Environmental Specialist.

This permanent and full-time position is based at our Touquoy mine site located approximately 1-hour northeast of Halifax, near Middle Musquodoboit, Nova Scotia. Currently, the operation is in care and maintenance.

Reporting to the Environmental Supervisor, you will be an active member of the team to ensure compliance with Company and statutory safety, environmental and operational standards and policy. This role is varied and may include ambient air quality monitoring, surface water flow monitoring, NPRI reporting, groundwater water level monitoring, water quality studies, acid rock drainage monitoring, sediment and erosion control planning, environmental site assessment work or other projects/programs.

The Opportunity

  • Participate in technical environmental projects/programs including scope definition, resourcing, contractor oversight, project health & safety, data collection, quality control and reporting.
  • Conduct site inspections and investigate reported environmental incidents
  • Compile and analyze environmental data
  • Assist with annual regulatory reporting to meet federal and provincial environmental requirements.
  • Review and understand the requirements of the mine's Industrial Approval (IA) and audit compliance
  • Provide technical assistance to operations for activities requiring regulatory compliance
  • Conduct internal compliance audits and assessments (and develop corrective action plans as required)
  • Understand the requirements of the mine's environmental monitoring field program and update environmental standard operating procedures
  • Contribute to regular updating of the mine's environmental management plans and standard operating procedures

You will also periodically support the Environmental Technicians with the environmental sampling field program, including surface water, ground water and soil sampling.

About You

Our successful candidate will have:

  • A degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, or related discipline.
  • A current, valid Driver's License (with transportation to/from our operations)
  • Highly proficient with the MS Office suite of tools and skilled at troubleshooting
  • A demonstrated commitment to ensuring a safe working environment
  • A systematic approach to problem solving and decision making

This role involves light physical duties including handling sampling equipment and you must be physically fit and capable of repeated lifts of up to 25kg.
