The Department

Alfred Health Radiation Oncology (AHRO) operates two radiotherapy centres in Victoria. One centre is located at The Alfred Hospital campus, known as Alfred Radiation Oncology (ARO). The other centre is known as Gippsland Radiation Oncology (GRO) and is located at Latrobe Regional Health (LRH), Traralgon.

At ARO, the centre operates 2 High Definition TrueBeam Linacs, 1 Standard Definition TrueBeam Linac, a Superficial treatment unit, 3D printing capability, a CT Scanner, BRAVOS High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy Afterloader, X-ray Brachytherapy Imaging and U/S devices related to the Low Dose Rate (LDR) Prostate Brachytherapy program. In conjunction with advanced modulated LINAC treatment deliveries, ARO also delivers Stereotactic Radiosurgery treatments, Stereotactic Ablative Body Radiotherapy (SABR) treatments, Total Body Irradiation (TBI) treatments and motion management treatments. The stereotactic program is further supported by Elements treatment planning systems and the Exac-Trac image guidance on all linacs.

At GRO, the centre operates 2 Standard Definition TrueBeam Linacs, CT Scanner, Superficial treatment unit, 3D printing capability and LDR Prostate Brachytherapy. Our regional centre provides advanced modulated LINAC treatment deliveries and Stereotactic Ablative Body Radiotherapy (SABR) treatments.

The radiotherapy treatment planning system (Eclipse) and the oncology information system (ARIA) are cloud-based services enabling effective integration across both sites. AHRO has been an early adopter and is a world leader in the clinical use of Surface Guided Radiotherapy technology and operates the VisionRT product on all 5 Linacs and 2 CT scanners.

The Medical Physics team within the department provides technical and clinical support and expertise for these specialised treatments.
