About the Organisation

Alfred Health and Monash Health have established a partnership to deliver a Shared Pathology Service (SPS). This partnership is aligned with the Victorian Government’s wider Pathology system reform to create new public pathology networks. We are working in partnership to ensure we meet future demands and continue to provide high quality pathology services for our patients and the community across both health services.

Pathology services are provided from two main laboratories (The Alfred in Prahran and Monash Medical Centre in Clayton), and six branch laboratories (Casey Hospital, Dandenong Hospital, Moorabbin Hospital, Sandringham Hospital, Wonthaggi Hospital and Victorian Heart Hospital). In addition, there are 21 collection centres and rooms spread across South East Melbourne and South Gippsland, with the furthest one located in Yarram. The SPS is currently planning to expand services to Western Health by late 2025. In addition, following the recommendation to form local health service networks by the Department of Health, Alfred Health will be merging with Peninsula Health, Bass Coast Health, Gippsland Southern Health and Kooweerup Regional Health Services, effective from 1 January 2026.
