About the team

The Finance Department provides a wide range of financial and related services to all areas of Alfred Health. Finance services include financial accounting and compliance, management accounting, financial analysis, decision support, analysis of clinical performance, clinical costing, support for financial information systems and transactional services including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Medical Billing.

The Accounts Receivable team is responsible for the processing and allocation of all inbound payments across Alfred Health, along with non-patient billing and collections. Every day brings something different and working as a team is what makes us successful in this dynamic high volume environment.

About the role:

The position of Accounts Receivable Officer is responsible for the successful receipting, allocation, and reconciliation of all payments across the Alfred Health network. The role also incorporates responsibility for collections, debtor management and non-patient billing across varying systems and areas of the organisation. We work very closely with the Medical Billing and Financial Control teams, and regularly interact with patient, government and commercial entities to successfully achieve team and organisational goals.

You will need to be an excellent communicator, have a desire to learn, and be able to prioritise as part of managing your activities in order to achieve daily deadlines. You will get great satisfaction from contributing to the team and delivering results through your interactions with internal teams, patients and other external entities.

Skills & Experience

  • High level interpersonal and communication skills, including a proven capacity to build and maintain effective and productive relationships with both internal and external groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to work accurately and effectively within a team environment while managing own priorities and deliverables.
  • Accounts Receivable experience in a high volume environment, along with a technical understanding of credit and collections legislation especially in the area of privacy and debt collection.
  • Proficiency in patient administration and billing systems particularly PBRC (Power Billing & Revenue Collection) and Great Plains, along with an understanding of Medicare, Private Health Insurance, and other funding mechanisms is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and issue resolution capabilities, with the ability to build into continuous systems and process improvement activity.
  • Experience in billing and debt collection relating to Pathology activity is highly desirable.
