Prevocational surgical trainees have access to a range of mandatory and recommended surgery rotations as well as critical care terms. Each of the surgical specialties have an appointed prevocational surgical supervisor who is available to mentor and guide trainees. Upon appointment, trainees are asked to preference their surgical specialty of choice, which is then used to assign an appropriate surgical supervisor. Ours prevocational program aims to optimise trainees for entrance into the RACS surgical training program. Support with curriculum vitae optimisation, research opportunities, obtaining supportive references and interview practice are services offered as part of the program. All trainees have allocated weekly protected training time and are expected to attend the weekly in hours educational lecture series.
