The Department

Alfred Health Support Services provides non-clinical support services across Alfred Health, these services include cleaning services, car parking and fleet management, waste management, gardens and grounds, distribution, security and access control, ward support, linen services, ancillary services, food services and hospitality. 

 

The Role

We are seeking a talented Head Chef to work at Ngamai Wilam a purpose built 12-bed residential eating disorder treatment facility located in Armadale. The Head Chef at Ngamai Wilam plays a crucial role in this innovative, new residential eating disorder service. Food services are central to the program's success. This key position requires collaboration with the Ngamai Wilam Manager and Alfred Health Food Services to ensure the delivery of a high-quality and therapeutic food program that supports the recovery of individuals with eating disorders. The Head Chef will work closely with all clinical staff including dietitians to ensure meals align with individual care plans, dietary requirements, adapt meals as needed for therapeutic or medical requirements and therapeutic goals, while also fostering a positive relationship with food and provide meals in a supportive and non-judgmental manner, fostering a safe environment for participants during mealtimesThe role works directly with participants, providing education and support on healthy eating habits, meal planning and some small cooking groups.

 

Qualifications and Experience Required

Essential                  

  • A background of experience in Food Services as a Head Chef
  • Hospital experience will be advantageous but not necessary
  • Qualification (cert III/IV in commercial cookery)
  • Understanding of modified texture and special dietary needs
  • Extensive knowledge of food preparation
  • Have the ability and adaptability to participate in change

Desirable

  • Has experience leading a team of Food Service staff
