Position Summary

An exciting opportunity exists for a Grade 2 Occupational Therapist to join the Occupational Therapy team in a permanent capacity on the 5 West Trauma and Orthopaedics ward. This ward delivers a contemporary Allied Health model of care across a seven day service with a rehabilitation mindset at its core.

The successful applicant will carry a combined caseload of complex trauma, orthopaedics and neurological conditions including traumatic brain injuries. A component of this caseload will also include service into the Orthopaedic pre-admission clinic. The Grade 2 Occupational Therapist in this role will be responsible for working with the occupational therapy team to deliver a service focused on early rehabilitation, return to occupational performance, and support complex discharge planning through the application of evidence-based intervention. The OT team works with the broader Allied Health team, including the Grade 4 Allied Health Team Leaders, in providing early and intensive allied health therapy to allow for the "Home First" philosophy to be implemented.  This is shown to result in positive patient outcomes including patients returning to home sooner without the need for ongoing inpatient care. The Occupational Therapy service on 5West works across a 7 day model of care - the incumbent in this position will be required to work at least one weekend shift per month to support clinical service delviery with the broader team.

The incumbent will have access to regular professional development and receive strong supervision with a commitment on personal/professional growth. At a grade 2 level, clinicians are expected to display autonomy of practice and a commitment to patient-centred care, collaborative practice and evidence-based knowledge. Grade 2 clinicians have an important role in leading various teaching/training and quality improvement activities across the Occupational Therapy Service and will be responsible for the supervision and mentoring of junior Occupational Therapy staff, Allied Health Assistants and/or undergraduate students.
