Department

Alfred General Medical Program Alfred Health provides care to patients admitted under general medical units over two campuses (Alfred and Sandringham sites). Allied Health staff function as critical team members in the general medical units and provide assessment, intervention, care progression and discharge planning across all sites. In order to provide a dynamic and agile service responsive to our community needs we have commissioned 12 points of care at Sandringham Hospital. This speciality is known as ACE, Acute Care of the Elderly and delivers care to a subgroup of general medical patients who will benefit from Geriatric consultation. The unit operates in line with acute management principles and is supported by nursing, medical and allied health staff managing the right patients to receive the right care at the right time.

Position Summary

To lead a high-performing Allied Health team across Sandringham General Medicine units by providing coordination of patient care, staff support, quality improvement and research leadership and facilitating skill development of Allied Health staff and students. To design, develop and implement a contemporary model of care, based on best practice and efficient transition between inpatients and community based care. The Allied Health Team Leader will foster excellence in clinical service provision and champion a strong culture of evidence-based practice and continuous improvement. Whilst the Grade 4 position is aligned to a specific clinical program, it is an expectation that clinical leadership and development of staff could extend beyond this to other areas within Alfred Health. It is a condition of employment that individuals may be required to work across all Alfred Health sites and services, including weekend and Public Holiday shifts as rostered.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant Allied Health discipline
  • Relevant post-graduate qualification of Masters or doctorate
  • Eligibility for registration or membership of the relevant professional body
  • At least 10 years postgraduate experience with clinical experience in management of general medicine patients
  • Proven experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of research and quality improvement
  • Capacity to incorporate best practice into Allied Health services
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high level teaching, training and supervision to staff and students
  • Demonstrated capacity to motivate staff and to contribute to a positive organisational culture
