About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join the Alfred Health Occupational Therapy department as a senior clinician and stream leader of the subacute Aged Care stream. The successful applicant for this Grade 3 Occupational Therapy position will be a clinical specialist within the Health of Older People service and will and will apply this knowledge, skill and expertise to develop the clinical practice of individuals and the wider team. The Occupational Therapy service is highly valued within the multidisciplinary team for its provision of best-practice speciality services, rehabilitation of older people and complex discharge planning. There are exciting opportunities for research, leadership and quality improvement within a supportive and collegial team. The successful OT is required to display autonomy of practice, whilst also having the opportunity to lead various teaching/training and quality improvement activities across the Occupational Therapy Service, Allied Health directorate, and clinical program, and will represent Allied Health on allocated committees. In addition, they will be responsible for leading a departmental portfolio, as well as the supervision and mentoring of junior Occupational Therapy staff, Allied Health Assistants and/or occupational therapy students. It is a requirement of all Alfred Health staff that they may be required to work across all Alfred Health sites (Alfred Hospital, Caulfield Hospital and Sandringham Hospital) based on clinic service demands. At Alfred Health, the Occupational Therapy service delivers a seven-day model of care and the incumbent in this role may be required to assist with weekend service provision on a periodic basis.
Qualifications Required
- B. App Sc (OT), B. Occupational Therapy, MOT prac or recognised equivalent.
- Desirable: Post graduate qualification (Masters level) in one of Occupational Therapy, Public Health, Research and/or Health Management or working towards same.
- Full Registration held with Occupational Therapy Board of Australia
- Member of OT Australia (or eligible for membership).
- Current Victorian Driver’s License (unrestricted).
- Current Working with Children’s Check
Essential Experience Required
- Minimum seven years’ clinical experience in Occupational Therapy (including a minimum of four years in clinical specialty area)
- Well-developed leadership skills, including the ability to undertake professional supervision and promote professional competence of other Occupational Therapy staff.
- A clear understanding of Occupational Therapy Service strategic priorities specific to a large, public health care provider.
- Demonstrated skills in the evaluation and implementation of evidence-based practice and modification of service delivery.
- Demonstrated understanding and commitment to the principles of continuous quality improvement.
- High level of communication and interpersonal skills to promote teamwork, and a proven ability to relate effectively to people at all levels of the organisation (prior job-share experience preferred)
- Sound skills in organisation, planning and priority setting.
