The Department

Alfred Health Occupational Therapy Services operates across The Alfred, Caulfield and Sandringham Hospitals, with clinical services aligned to Alfred Health's strategic goals and operational performance targets. The Occupational Therapy Service is committed to the provision of high-quality, evidence-based care, and strongly values professional development and clinical supervision. Clinical service provision is focused on inpatient acute, rehabilitation and aged care streams, for diverse patient populations including emergency, general medicine, surgical, orthopaedic, neurological, trauma, spinal, amputee and burns/plastics speciality units.

 

The Position Summary

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join the Alfred Health Occupational Therapy (OT) Driving Service as a senior clinician. The Occupational Therapy Driving Assessment and Rehabilitation service provides specialist driving assessments for clients with a medical condition or long-term disability to determine their safety to continue or resume driving with or without modifications. The Alfred Health OT Driving Service is a registered service Provider of the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

 

The person in this role will bring a high level of clinical expertise to support a discrete area of Occupational Therapy practice and will apply this knowledge, skill, and expertise to provide high quality patient services and to lead and develop the clinical practice of individuals and/or teams. At Grade 3 level, they are required to provide clinical leadership, supervision and mentoring within their own discipline, whilst also contributing to the development of the Allied Health service.  

 

The successful applicant will be expected to identify and lead process improvements in the Alfred Health Driving Assessment and Rehabilitation service to ensure alignment with organisational expectations, clinical development and relevant research findings. They will take a leadership role in in evaluation of service effectiveness to support service expansion and growth, particularly in building the Alfred Health NDIS Occupational Therapy Service. In addition, they will identify and respond to opportunities to engage in research activities to support increased knowledge associated with driving assessment and rehabilitation.

 

It is a requirement of all Alfred Health staff that they may be required to work across all Alfred Health site (Alfred Hospital, Caulfield Hospital and Sandringham Hospital) based on clinic service demands, including weekend and Public Holiday shifts as rostered.

 

Skills and Qualifications Required

  • B. App Sc (OT), B. Occupational Therapy, MOT prac or recognised equivalent
  • Full Registration held with Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (via AHPRA)
  • Member of OT Australia (or eligibility for membership)
  • Minimum seven years of clinical experience in Occupational Therapy
  • Advanced Occupational Therapy knowledge and skills in driving assessment and rehabilitation, including impact of medical conditions/disability on occupational performance difficulties in driving
