About the Role

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching, assessing and marking Bachelor of Community Services students.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress and assessments.
  • Teaching lecture and tutorial classes.
  • Marking assessments and giving feedback to students in timely manner.
  • Provide services as a Lecturer and/or Tutor to students at a level appropriate to the skills and experience of the staff.
  • Undertake independent teaching in the relevant discipline and in some cases, coordinate and/or lead the activities of other staff teaching in the same discipline.
  • Ensure that effective and engaging learning is taking place in the classroom under your instruction and supervision and provide appropriate and timely feedback to students.
  • Consult with and provide support and feedback to students on a timely basis.
  • Ensure that students area assessed on all unit learning outcomes with the use of both formative and summative assessments.
  • Ensure that all student attendance rolls are recorded accurately and legibly to the required standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and assessments in accordance with Acknowledge Education policies and procedures and relevant regulatory requirements, and as required by the Course Coordinator, Head of Department and the Dean. 
  • Provide students’ results to students and on Moodle and on RTO Manager in the manner determined by the Course Coordinator and/or Dean.
  • Identify and monitor students who are at risk of failing and organise necessary student support efforts for the students.
  • Participate in teaching and learning meetings and other internal and external professional development activities as well as collaborate with other teaching staff. In some cases, staff may be required to participate in teaching teams within and cross-campus.
  • Participate in teaching evaluation.
  • Ensure that marking, assessment and grading is completed by the assigned deadlines as communicated by the course coordinator.
  • Respond to student emails and queries at a timely manner.
  • Be active in pursuing new and effective teaching methodology and strategy.
  • Maintain high professional and ethical conduct, including high-standards of self- management, resilience and collaborative behaviours.

About You

You must have a post-graduate qualification in community work, welfare, human/social services, or similar, with a minimum of 2 years industry experience. A strong understanding of theory and practice in the relevant discipline is essential. You must also be willing to undertake at least 20 hours of continued professional development each year. Ideally you will be tech savvy and able to develop innovative, effective strategies to keep students engaged.

It would be advantageous if you hold the following:

  • Completion, or enrolment in PhD or Master's in an area related to Community Services
  • Relevant tertiary teaching experience with demonstrated teaching achievements and results. Teaching training is available for those who don’t have previous teaching experience!
  • Please note that a valid Working with Children Check is a requirement for this role. If you are successfully hired for this role, you must obtain a check and you will be reimbursed. If you have a current VIT Provisional Registration or Teacher Registration, you would not require a separate WWCC.
