Role Purpose

The Project Manager will be responsible for the management of a large-scale, complex, multi-stakeholder projects for AARNet and its customers. The Project Manager role will provide key oversight and input on a number of infrastructure and Research based projects. The individual in this role will be responsible for managing project budgets, sprint planning & scheduling, resource allocation, project execution, risk and issues management, customer and management reporting, presentations, and key stakeholder management.

The successful candidate will work with various team members to plan, execute project related activities, report to stakeholders, and ensure AARNet management has a “single-point of truth” on the status and health of the programme of work. Further, the role will assist in the development and consistent use of AARNet’s project management frameworks and engagement models.

This role can be based in Melbourne or Sydney.

In this role, your main responsibilities are:

  • Stakeholder management with the ability to guide teams and take people along the journey
  • Scheduling, resourcing, budget management, risk and issues management
  • End-to-end project delivery experience, from project initiation through to post implementation
  • Timely project delivery within assigned budget allocations
  • Create and assign work packages ensuring project team morale is kept high through this process
  • Remove day-to-day project level roadblocks and impediments, providing team guidance and support
  • Liaise with team members to capture key project timelines and updates for broader project reporting
  • Ensure change management processes are in place
  • Review and ensure quality standards of technical project templates, management reporting, and presentations
  • Promote quality assurance throughout project lifecycle
  • Maintenance of project related artifacts and documentation
  • Guide and carry out business analysis activities, capture requirements and document key aspects of the program of work where required.
  • Coordination, follow-up and support on project related activities, promoting and ensuring project methodology, processes and procedures achieve quality standards

Your expertise, experience & qualifications

  • Have worked for a large telco or have a fundamental understanding on how telco’s work with provisioning and supporting services
  • 2+ years in project managing large deployments of telecommunications or research projects interacting with stakeholders across multiple teams
  • Strong technical background in project delivery
  • Experience working within an Agile, Waterfall and PMO environments
  • Running the end-to-end project management lifecycle for the program of work
  • Experience developing and completing new technical templates and quality assurance
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proven change management and training experience
  • Reporting around budget management, project scheduling, resourcing, risks and issues management
  • Experience setting up and maintaining Wiki Confluence, SharePoint and Jira or similar
  • Ability to work both as a team member and autonomously within an environment of conflicting priorities
  • Ability to understand risks and challenges with a proven history of successful risk mitigation; Previous Business Analysis/ Solutions Architect/ Technical Lead background (ideal)
  • IT and Project Management Certification(s)
  • May require Australia security clearance upon employment

Although not essential to the role, it would be even better if you had any of the following experience/skills:

  • Strong technical IT background
  • Strong verbal communication and written documentation skills
  • Ability to engage and lead teams in the change management journey
  • Strong engagement and stakeholder management skills including workshop facilitation
  • Worked within a project management environment
  • Ability to multitask against competing priorities, flag risks and issues and escalations
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies, templates and frameworks
